NANJING, China, October 23, 2023 - The tech landscape in Colombia witnessed a wave of creativity and innovation as Whale Cloud, in collaboration with Universidad de La Sabana, Claro Colombia, and Macondo Magic Softwares, hosted Sabana Hack 2023 from October 14th to 15th. This grand event brought together 30 dynamic teams comprising nearly 130 participants. Sabana Hack 2023 featured four major themes, each presenting its unique set of challenges. The theme set by Whale Cloud and Claro Colombia focused on “Claro SuperApp's Ecosystem Operation", setting the stage for innovation that would change the face of mobile applications in Colombia.

SuperApps, described as open ecosystems offering integrated and efficient daily experiences, are transforming the digital realm. Whale Cloud and Claro Colombia are pioneering the first Colombian SuperApp, aimed at revolutionizing the mobile app landscape. The competition theme they established inspired participants to address industry-specific challenges, develop mini-programs, seamlessly integrate them into the SuperApp, and craft business models that promote adoption. Eight teams participated, each delivering impressive mini-program solutions across sectors, including healthcare, retail, transportation, finance, and more.

The impact of Sabana Hack 2023 extends far beyond a mere competition. It marks a significant step towards the collaboration between Whale Cloud and Claro Colombia, and their vision for a comprehensive SuperApp ecosystem that caters to the unique needs of Colombians and local businesses.

Xu Xin, Director of Strategic Business of Whale Cloud, said, “SuperApps represent an open, innovative, and collaborative ecosystem encompassing applications across various industries. However, the development of these applications is not our primary focus. Instead, we hope to empower third-party developers from diverse industries to create a local digital lifestyle SuperApp for the people of Colombia.”

Jenny Robayo, Director of Computer Engineering of Universidad de La Sabana, said, “We are delighted to witness such an abundance of passion and talent among the students as they apply their knowledge to real-world challenges. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all the event organizers for offering students this unique opportunity.”

Camilo Cadena, Manager of SuperApp Project of Claro Colombia, said, “As we join hands with Whale Cloud to build a SuperApp, we draw confidence from Whale Cloud's extensive expertise in mini-program technology and SuperApp development. Together, we are poised to create a thriving SuperApp in Colombia, igniting innovation across diverse industries and charting a path towards a brighter future.”

Santiago Botero, CEO of Macondo Magic Softwares, said, “As local collaborators in nurturing the mini-program ecosystem, we are thrilled to be a part of this initiative, promoting the technological aspects of the mini-program SuperApp. It's also a source of great joy for us to witness the surge of creativity and passion among the young participants.”
